Welcome 2026! Did you get a puppy over the holidays? Were you home with your grown dog but too busy for regular walks? Heading back to work and school means your loveable, playful, ball of fur will need an outlet for all of that energy. If your dog could talk, they would tell you they are bored and they need the physical and mental stimulation that regular exercise provides. Exercise reduces anxiety, reduces boredom and destructive behaviors. And we don't want you coming home after a long day with chewed up shoes! A tired dog is a good dog but a fulfilled dog is even better. Which brings us to another benefit of regular movement: mental stimulation. Dogs experience the world primarily by smell. Smell is their primary information gathering tool. Fun facts: Dogs have 100-300 million (up to 1 billion in some breeds) olfactory receptors vs. about 6 million in humans. Their brain area for smell processing is proportionately about 40 times larger than in humans. They are 10,000 to 100,000 times (more for scent specialized breeds like bloodhounds) more sensitive to smells than humans. So the information dogs gather on walks is like you reading your phone - and we know how much time you spend doing that! Additionally, 10 minutes of sniffing can be as tiring as 30 minutes of walking. Another benefit of regular exercise is weight management and joint mobility. Around 50-60% of dogs are overweight. Even one added pound can make a huge, pardon the pun, difference! Being overweight is linked to decreased lifespan, arthritis, diabetes and other issues. Walking helps keep dogs at their proper weight and it's good for maintaining joint mobility which is important for all of us as we age. You may think your dog, especially the little ones, gets enough exercise running around the backyard, but that's not the same as a structured walk which offers much more enrichment and stimulation. In a perfect world, you would have two or three 30 min walks a day with your furry friend (or more if you have a working breed like a husky or an Australian Shepard), but you are busy working, raising kids and living your life. That's where Pampered Pups Dog Sitting has got your back. We can do twice a day walks for that puppy that just can't hold it more than four hours, once a day walks for potty time and exercise, longer 60 minute walks so that working breed doesn't chew up the house while you are gone or a simple potty break and companionship for that senior pup who needs a friend. January is the perfect time to sign up for regular walks with Pampered Pups Dog Sitting. We offer 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute walks tailored to your pup's needs. We can come as many, or as few, of times a week as you need. We can even come on an as-needed basis after a required meet and greet. You can get a discount by signing up for regular, Monday through Friday walks. Hurry and lock in your rate now before they increase! In addition to daily dog walks, we offer multi-day drop-in full care visits (for when you are away) and overnight stays so your pups can snuggle with a human when you are out of town. If you are ready to take that first step to a happier and healthier pup, request a meet and greet at: pamperedpupsdogsitting.com/meet-greet. Do it today and your dog will thank you!
